Why Creative Field Trip?
It started by accident!
Amy is YWCA Edmonton’s 2026 Artist in Residence, and as part of the residency she invited a few fellow creatives (including Nicole and Dallas) to spend a weekend at Camp Yowochas making art together. The camp itself is beautiful, but what stayed with us afterwards wasn't the artwork we made. It was how much fun we had making things together!
Everyone was working on completely different projects, but we wandered around to see what everyone else was making, got excited about each other's ideas, headed out for walks, then came back and kept creating. When you sit around and make things for hours, you end up talking about everything. Art. Work. Books. Relationships. Whatever happens to come up.
A few weeks later we realized we were still talking about that weekend. Not because we made anything extraordinary, but because we had such a genuinely good time. It made us wonder why there aren't more opportunities like that for adults. So we decided to create one!
Meet Amy
Amy is an Edmonton based landscape painter inspired by the coastlines of her childhood in Nova Scotia and the prairie skies and mountain landscapes she now calls home. She's endlessly inspired by the places she explores and has been known to interrupt a conversation with, "Look at those colours!"
Her friends often joke that she's the group's unofficial social coordinator. She's always dreaming up reasons to get people together, whether that's crafternoons, margaritas and tacos, creative weekends, or little adventures that don't really need a reason. Creative Field Trip is a pretty natural extension of that.
She believes creativity isn't reserved for artists. It's something everyone deserves to experience. She hopes you'll leave remembering something we tend to forget as adults: making things together is ridiculously fun.
Paints landscapes. Collects colour palettes. Will absolutely point out a good cloud.
Meet Dallas
Takes pictures. Thrifting aficionado. Calls the library her happy place.
Dallas is a portrait photographer and multidisciplinary artist who was once dumped by a pretentious high school boyfriend for being “too artsy.” Now as a grown woman, she has fully embraced her artistic nature as she knows art is the lifeblood of society and the joy in everyday life.
She loves learning new things and experimenting with different art forms. Last summer she travelled to Paris to study the art of perfumery, and she recently went to Ireland to sketch by the sea and create a collection of fine art photographs (coming soon).
She loves making people feel welcome and celebrated. Within five minutes of meeting her, don’t be surprised if Dallas has learned your life story and unearthed your special interest in anything from aviation history to birdwatching, or vintage hat collecting. She is also guaranteed to find a way to help you integrate your interests into your creative practice.
Meet Nicole
Draws and paints in miniature. Maximalist at heart. Lurks by the snack table in a loud outfit.
Nicole is an Edmonton based multidisciplinary artist, illustrator, and designer inspired by the ocean’s sun glitter, the smell of petrichor after it rains, and everyday moments with her husband and daughter. She approaches art with playful curiosity and constantly strives to loosen up her perfectionist tendencies.
Voted as ‘most likely here for the snacks’ by her book club, Nicole prioritizes impeccable vibes and great food at every girls night she hosts in her brownstone-inspired townhome.
Since having a kiddo, Nicole leans into absurdist and whimsical crafts using everyday materials, and many a glitter-covered rock smothered in googly eyes can be found in the nooks and crannies of her home.
Daydreamers, sentimentalists, aesthetes, burnout babes, social butterflies, introverts, makers, collectors of little treasures, curious souls, people who buy art supplies without a plan, and anyone craving a little more colour, connection, and play.
